Every Good Mother

Have you ever noticed that most fairy tales begin the same way. Once Upon a Time . . .

OUaT in a not so far away land, there lived a very kind and wise king and his equally kind a wise queen. In this fairy tale, the kind & wise king and queen have many children and teach them all to be kind (and hopefully wise) before the good queen becomes very very ill, as Every Good Mother does.

So, here we are, in a land not so far far away, where my sweet and very good mother is very very sick and dying. AND how do you ask does a fair maiden, such as myself, deal with devastating tragedy and grief? I clean of course. Yesterday, I got down and dirty and scrubbed the bathrooms. I did some dishes, and dusted off that old broom sitting in the corner with cobwebs on it and swept. I whistled to the birds and other wild woodland creatures for a little assistance, but I don't thing they recognized my horse and tearful voice because not one bird or fuzzy squirrel came.

Today, I think I'll mop the floor with my own tears and iron the king's shirts. Feeling powerless is not so bad when you can also feel a little useful.

Right?

  1. Love you, cuz. I've got a bucketful I can dump on the floor the next time I see you. Then we can mop together. I'll let you iron, though, because ironing collared shirts makes me swear sometimes.

  3. I LOVE this idea for a blog! So cute! I'm definitely going to be keeping up on it, even though I live just 20 feet away:)

Thinking of you and sending much prayers your way. Know that you are loved, thought of and prayed over back here in Idaho. LOVE YOU!

  4. Sarah dear, My heart is hurting for you. If ever I wished I was just a block away from you and could take your girls so you could just sit with your mother, it's now. I pray that you can have some quiet moments to connect with her and that as heavy as your grief is, it will somehow be a lighter burden on your shoulders. You are in my heart, friend. Please keep updating when you can.

  8. Sarah,

This made me cry too. I am going to miss her so much. She has always been there for me in her beautiful non-judgmental way to give good council to her sinner sister. She is one of the best people I know. Not sure I am such a fair maiden, maybe the evil stepmother, or the wicked witch of the west... either way she loved me anyway.

  10. Rock on, Fair Maiden. The King and your strangely attractive Younger Brother/Prince are coming to join you (maybe we'll help clean too... if you're lucky).

  11. Things I like about your blog: the font for the post titles, and the fact that your links are all for attorneys when you are related to two (almost 3). That is awesome irony. :). See you in a little while!
